Those networks justify part of the premium for someone who flies 30-plus segments a year. Someone taking two trips annually will probably never draw on that repair infrastructure, leaving much of the 600-euro gap to the logo and the warranty card.
There is a measurable durability difference at the extremes. Anodised aluminium dents instead of cracking, which is why film crews and frequent flyers tolerate Rimowa’s higher weight and price. Aluminium shows every dent permanently, while polycarbonate flexes back. The choice between them often comes down to cosmetic preference dressed up as engineering, and the listings rarely say so.
